Red: Oz, Ahmet, Matt, Daniel, Damon, Ola, Ibrahim, Bruno
Yellow: Chris, Alan, Larry, Phil, ?, ?, ? ?
Four of our regulars, four of theirs and then a random pick from the rest of their not-so-regulars.
It worked well, producing a very evenly matched game, good passing, defences and attacking threats for both teams. Three of Yellow, (the ones whose names I don’t know) kept combining well in attack in a very threatening way but never quite finding that final killer pass. Red on the other hand had that final killer pass but Daniel, Matt and Ola all missed sitters. Shocking. Who would break first?
Yellow – Ibrahim and Ola finally managed to elude the Yellow defence and score. But this game was there for the taking, certainly no time for Red to rest on their laurels as they lost Bruno to a pulled muscle 15 minutes in. But they were brave and took it to half time.
The second half was exactly the same as the first. Chances for both, Yellow’s attacking threesome regularly fluffing their lines at the last minute. They then made a soft back pass which Daniel saw and sprinted for. It looked to being going out of play five metres wide of the goal but he reached just in time to thump a first time shot from the tightest of angles into the roof of the net. A great finish and Red nerves settled.
Yellow did bundle in pinball-in-the-box reply to keep the last 15 minutes interesting but they couldn’t find another breakthrough.
Final score: Red 2 – 1 Yellow
