Report by James

[Library image]

Snow on the pitch, if we had an orange ball we’d have looked all 1970’s.  With the addition of 3 randoms from the earlier game and the lack of bibs we organized ourselves by top-colour….

The Red-ish/light six – JP, James, Rich N, Rich P, Matt + Jo (random)
The Black/blue/dark five – Oz, Ahmet, JJ, Gareth + Danny (randoms)

It became quickly apparent that the blue randoms were very good and the red one not so, which helpfully made for a good balanced game.  Defensive errors and sharp finishing (ok, and maybe some good passing) saw blue leading 5-2 at half time.  Second half was a different story with a self-chastised Red going on a scoring run to get to about 10-7, which became 12-12 with a minute to go (suspicion that blue might have had a goal that counted two, it was as confusing as where the pitch boundaries were).  This allowed James to finish the game by getting hopelessly dispossessed by Danny who slotted home coolly.

13-12 to blue (maybe).  Fun in the snow!

Red (5): Jeremy, Jim N, Ahmet, Oz, Daniel
Yellow (5): Richard P, Richard N, Gerald, JP, John G

5-a-side. What a corker. What an introduction to the new year. A brisk morning brought in the new year on the common and the pace of the game reflected that. Sadly I can’t remember much of note. Red went into the break 5-2 up which was a harsh scoreline as yellow certainly had seemed to dominate possession. Mr Norman pulled off some tasty saves and the red defence resolutely kept JP off the scoresheet.

The second half only had one goal in the first 30 minutes for red but with Jeremy concentrating on pulling the red showboat whistle a little prematurely, yellow pulled back two late goals, the second of which rolled in 3 seconds before the final whistle. However, despite their group hug and mass cheering, I must remind them that they still lost!

Final score: Red 6-4 Yellow

Red (4): JP, Stuart, Richard P, Daniel
Yellow (4): Jeremy, Oz, Ed, Steve

Another game that won’t have any highlights on the annual DVD except maybe my comedy headed clearance. A non-classic, scrappy affair but thanks for coming to the last game of 2009.

A settled first half closed at 4-4. Plenty of missed chances at both ends but with the muddiest pitch of the winter cutting up, not very surprising. Yellow had a resolute second half with 5 goals and only letting in one in return.

Final score: Yellow 9-5 Red.

A special mention to Ed who was particularly effective, maybe you should have a daughter every week – Congratulations!

Please may I have names of those coming to annual awards dinner on Friday 15th Janaury so I can book a table for the right number of people. (JP, Oz, you’re already on the list)

“Their” match report:

Peckham Rye FC (Lee, Gareth, Pete, Calum, Joe, Kevin) Vs The Estate Agents

The weather was looking so bad when I set off I nearly didn’t bother. Luckily it had cleared up by the time I’d arrived. Unfortunately everybody else must have been thinking the same thing. With a grand total of three players (thanks Pete and Lee) it didn’t look like we were going to get a game. Just as we were about to give up and leave, Joe turned up with 2 mates (Calum and Kevin), all we need was the Estate agents to turn up and it was game on. And turn up they did. They give us an another player but we were still a man down. I didn’t matter we had the quality to make up for it. We didn’t let them play and pressured them from the front. Joe forced their defense into making a loose pass I picked up the ball and tucked it away to start us off. I then hit a beauty towards the top corner it bounced back off the angle and Pete buried it 2 – 0. The Estate agents hit back with a goal from JP but Calum then skipped past half their team and neatly rolled it in to restore the 2 goal gap. 3 – 1 half time.

Second half was a little tighter they lost the extra men which strangely seemed to make them play better. I broke down the wing hit a cross that was deflected in 4 – 1. They hit straight back with another goal(JP again). Then came the goal of the game Kevin played the ball across the back to Lee, Lee played an nice ball down the line to Pete, Pete looked up and played a pass into me on the edge of the box, I saw Calum breaking through and played a back heal into his path which he finished to aplomb. 5 – 2 Fabio are you watching. Calum then went on another Maradona style run he went right into the heart of their defense and wrapped up his hat-trick in style. The Agents got a late consolation but the job was done.

Final Score – 6 – 4

Man of the Match – Calum for a great all round performance.

Peckham Rye FC (David, Gareth Pete, Xavier, Joe, Kieran) Vs The Estate Agents

On a very wet November day we only managed to get 6 to turn up, bad show lads. We decided to play a 3 aside game until the Estate Agents arrived. Fortunately for us the estate agents were also short on numbers so we challenged them to a game. The Estate agents were a man down but they were up for it, unfortunately for them so were we. The game started a little tight as we struggle to get are passing going. The breakthrough came from a long throw to the back post from Pete which I happily volleyed in. The flood gate opened with goals from Xavier, Pete and Kieran soon making it 5 – 0. With David putting in a fine performance in at the back the Estate Agents were struggle to break through. They managed to get one back just before half time to keep things interesting. Half Time 5 – 1

Second half was pretty much the same with the extra man really making the difference. We continued to create chances with Xavier and Myself grabbing another goal each. They start started to put up a bit of a fight and scored a couple of goals 7 – 3. Then came the goal of the game, David broke out of defense beat two players and drilled a shot low and hard into the bottom right corner. It just clipped the post on the way in, great goal! With Joe now the only player to have not scored in our team he made it his sole purpose in life to get the ball in the back of the net. He’d already managed to hit the post, the crossbar and have one cleared of the line. It just wasn’t happening for him. He didn’t give up he kept the pressure on their defense and he final got his just deserts when he caught the defending napping and nicked in to score, at last. He immediately went up and field and scored again just for good measure. They scored a consolation just before then end and the game finished.

Final Score 10 – 5

Man of the match – David for some solid defending and a great goal

Bibs – Pete, Rob, Danny, Danny’s Mate, Lucca, Ivan, Terence
Shirts – Gareth and Estate Agents

After weeks and weeks of glorious weather finally autumn had arrived. It was throwing it down which probably explained why the numbers were down. There’s was only 8 turn up so was decide to join up with the Estate Agent s (They’re not really Estate Agents but that’s how we’ve always referred to them) as they were also short. To make the side even I took my “30 pieces of silver” and joined the agents. Now I’m not going to write a long match report where I try to remember who scored when. All I will say is that the Estate Agents won 6 – 0, I scored five (sorry lads) and the highlight of the game was the own goal for Terence sliding it neatly passed Pete. A shocking performance all round. One final point Danny and Lucca get some boots!

Final Score – 6 – 0

Bibs Man of the Match – Nobody poor performances all round

“Their” match report

Just a quick update: In the second leg of our friendly game against “the Estate Agents”, we made an impressive debut by scoring 3 goals before the half time, with a good tactical 3-3-3 display, even though some of our big guns were missing (Peter : injured, Gareth on hols like most of the “over 24 legendaries” team mates ; enjoying their time with their families, (or surrounded by naked girls on the sea side) before starting the new season….). In the second half, things got a little bit harder, the opposite team got more confident and played with a better attitude collectively, and managed to level the score to 4-4, but with 10 minutes remaining and with 1 player down we finally struck 2 late goals, thanks to fellow Lee and Charles. That was a good game from both sides, and we must admit WE WERE JUST A BETTER TEAM !!!!! GO ON LADS!!!!!!!!!!

Over 24 seniors 6-4 The Estate Agents

Man of the Match: Captain Lee, strong center back and score an awesome goal.

“Their” match report:

Another scorching day in Peckham Rye Park. This week numbers and equipment were really lacking, we started with a 3 a-side game no keepers and jumpers for goals. After half an hour or so the Estate Agents (that’s what we usually refer to them as) turned up to start their game at the other side of the park. They were also lacking numbers so we asked to join their game and they agreed.  Great a proper game against our arch rivals.  They laid out the rules, no slide tackles and no offside. We agreed and kicked off. We started really well but the lack of an offside rule really through us at first leading to our Rivals scoring first from a long throw that went over our defence to their striker in acres of space 1 – 0. We were knocking the ball around well having a good percentage of the ball and peppering shots around their goal. We equalised when a shot was deflected into Nick’s (I think it was Nick) paths and he finished neatly. Then we were caught out again by a ball over the top and another clean finish, 2 – 1 down at half time.

After a quick team talk we went back out determined to play better. We hit them on the break and Charles played me in on goal 2 – 2 in off the post (nearly fluffed it). The Estate Agents put together a good move down the left and finished it off with an excellent half volley into the top corner from their striker 3 – 2. We piled on the pressure looking for the equaliser. With pride on the line and time running out we pushed forward and the break came after a shot rebounded into my path and I just swung at it (hit and hope). Fortunately for me it went low and hard into the net. The game ended a couple of minutes later with the scores tied at 3 – 3.

Another good game

Man of the Match = Charles for he mazy runs

Yellow (6): Jeremy, Kevin, Jim, Daniel, Tufan, JP
Red (6): Rob, Darren, Oz, Ahmet, Stuart, Steve

Hmmm, no idea who picked the teams, height vs speed, interesting experiment.
So anyway yellow romped to a first half lead of 7-3 (ish). Red lost Rob 10 minutes into the first half with an ankle strain (hope you’re OK dude) so Jim galantly swapped teams. It didn’t show straight away but after half time the sleeping giant woke up and red made a resolute comeback to win 11-8. Highlight: a fruitless peppering of the red goal in the first five minutes (all off target) only equalled by red failing to capitalise after 4 yellow goal kicks in a row going straight to reds first man – finishing not the name of the game!

Cricket: Kevin will be in contact about arranging a cricket game in the near future.
August bank holiday: As usual, bank holiday game will be on the Monday, 31st August.

Well it seems the slightly effeminate nautical inspirational e-mail did the trick. Thank you all for a coming – a great game. A bit of a baptism of fire for Winston, hot, hard and fast. Usually it’s just one of those, but all three – poohah!

Red (6): Richard N, Tufan, James, Damon, Winston, Richard P
Yellow (6): Jeremy, Ahmet, Daniel, Gerald, Steve, Kevin

Highlights.

Yellow kicked off, Daniel passing back then taking a run down the right channel, receiving the ball back and with a deft dip of the shoulder, turned around Richard N and shot into the far low corner. 1 – 0 after 10 seconds.

A few chances then went to both sides but good keeping from yellow and not so good from red took yellow into the break 4 – 0 up.

Winston changed his shoes and immediately stopped slipping over but the frustration began to show in red with Richard N clearly needing a refund from his anger management course. Not quite the physical explosion of Cantona’s kung-fu kick but if they’d been a bit closer….and they only wanted their ball back. Sadly the strain was too much and he went off injured 10 minutes into the second half and yellow “donated” Daniel to the opposition.

A couple of goals from both teams ending in a final score of 6 – 2.

Some interesting stats:

The highest attendence so far this season (12) (apart from the astro 11-a-side (15))
The highest even sided game so far (6-a-side)
The second highest goal difference so far (4) (exceeded only by the game against the russians (a difference of 10). Hang on, wasn’t I pushed over to other team on that game as well?
